Teeth Whitening in Woodland Hills & Calabasas
The most common complaint our cosmetic dentistry patients have about their teeth is that they have become discolored or faded as a result of aging or diet. Fortunately, there are a wide array of effective teeth whitening treatments in Woodland Hills available at Dr. Fredericks’ teeth whitening facility.
At-home whitening with 16% or 22% carbamine peroxide is one of the easiest methods of teeth whitening. This teeth whitening treatment takes several weeks to complete and involves wearing thin trays in your mouth for a few hours per day or during sleep.
At our teeth whitening office, we also offer the state-of-the-art BRITE SMILE system with guaranteed results. In just an hour or so, your teeth can be up to 8 to 12 shades lighter.
One of the most effective methods of teeth whitening is through the placement of porcelain veneers, a procedure that produces very long-lasting, natural-looking, stain-resistant teeth. With veneers, we can achieve the color that is uniform across your smile and make the teeth whiter than with standard teeth whitening technology.
Even though all of these methods work well, a personal consultation with Dr. Fredericks can help determine which option will work best for you.

Do you enjoy drinking red wine, dark-colored sodas, coffee or tea, but dislike the way they stain or discolor your teeth? If so, you are not alone. At Southern Cal Smiles, the most common complaint that our cosmetic dentistry patients have about their teeth is that they have become increasingly discolored or dulled due to diet or simply the natural aging process. Thankfully, Dr. Susan C. Fredericks offers a wide array of effective teeth whitening treatments to help patients like you achieve whiter, brighter teeth.
At-Home Teeth Whitening
If you would like to whiten your teeth gradually, at-home teeth whitening treatment might be right for you. Our at-home teeth whitening kit makes it easy for you to brighten the color of your teeth. Treatment involves wearing thin trays that are filled with a solution comprised of 16-percent or 22-percent carbamine peroxide, for a few hours each day, either while you are lounging around the house or while you sleep. After several weeks of treatment, you will achieve noticeably whiter, brighter teeth.
In-Office Teeth Whitening
For patients who would like to whiten their teeth dramatically in just about an hour, in-office teeth whitening treatment might be an appropriate treatment option. At Southern Cal Smiles, we offer the state-of-the-art BRITE SMILE system, with guaranteed results. Over the course of an hour or so, you can achieve teeth that are up to eight to 12 shades lighter and brighter.
The BRITE SMILE system is designed to improve the look of stains on the tooth enamel and the underlying dentin, without harming the overall tooth structure. During treatment, a special gel containing hydrogen peroxide as the active ingredient is applied to the surface of the teeth. Dr. Fredericks then applies a special light to the teeth, which stimulates the breakdown of the hydrogen peroxide. As the hydrogen peroxide breaks down, oxygen molecules are released, which penetrate stains on the tooth enamel and dentin to lighten these bothersome discolorations. The end result is lighter, brighter teeth!
The In-Office Procedure
The in-office teeth whitening procedure takes about an hour. The treatment area is first prepared by placing a protective cover over your gums and lips, keeping the teeth exposed. Next, Dr. Fredericks applies the hydrogen-peroxide gel to the front surface of teeth. You can relax while the specialized chair-side lamp goes to work, stimulating the breakdown of the hydrogen peroxide and thus the release of the stain-penetrating oxygen molecules.
Every 15 minutes, a new layer of gel is applied to the teeth. Once the treatment is complete, Dr. Fredericks applies a fluoride gel to the teeth to help minimize sensitivity. She will then give you instructions about how to care for your brighter teeth at home as well as an at-home touch-up kit that you can use to help keep your teeth looking their best.
Appropriate Teeth Whitening Candidates
Teeth whitening treatment is an effective way to lighten and brighten discolored or stained teeth. However, it is not a suitable treatment option for everyone. For instance, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not undergo teeth whitening treatment. Also, children under the age of 16 years old are not appropriate candidates for teeth whitening treatment. In addition, individuals with extensive dental veneer work or very sensitive teeth might not be suitable candidates.
Alternative Treatment Options
If you are not an appropriate candidate for teeth whitening treatment, Dr. Fredericks will recommend an alternative treatment option, such as porcelain dental veneers . Dental veneers conceal minor tooth imperfections, including stains and discolorations. With dental veneer treatment, patients can achieve a brighter smile, with natural-looking and long-lasting results.
